3. Engagement Session Planning
Think of this as a practice run without the pressure
Engagement sessions are honestly one of the most underrated parts of the entire wedding experience.
Not because of the photos themselves — but because of what they do for your comfort and confidence before the wedding.
A lot of couples tell me:
“We’re awkward in front of the camera.”
“We’ve never done this before.”
“We don’t know how to pose.”
That is completely normal.
The engagement session is where we remove that fear.
Wedding resources and photographers consistently recommend pre-wedding sessions because they help couples feel significantly more relaxed and trusting on the actual wedding day.
What we’ll plan together:
- location ideas
- scenery/vibes
- time of day for best lighting
- outfit guidance
- movement-based prompts
- how to make the session feel natural
My goal during your session
I’m not trying to make you look like professional models.
I’m trying to make you feel like yourselves.
That usually means:
- walking
- laughing
- movement
- talking
- being present together
- giving gentle direction instead of rigid posing
Why engagement sessions matter so much
By the end of the session:
- you’ll know how I work
- you’ll understand my direction style
- wedding portraits will feel easier
- we’ll already have rapport together
- you’ll trust me more on wedding day
That trust changes everything.
When couples trust their photographer, they stop overthinking and start actually experiencing moments together. That’s when the best images happen.
